The Play

Thin Body, Fat Mind is the story of one woman’s life long battle with dieting, bingeing and the pursuit of the perfect fit.
In this one-woman production, Cathy Wilke explores her love/hate relationship with food and her personal struggles with weight and dieting through the use of original songs, dance and a game show entitled “Big Fat Loser.”
After years of dealing with her own binge eating, Cathy wrote Thin Body, Fat Mind as a way to speak to the many women who are struggling with their food intake and body image. While the subject matter being dealt with is quite serious, there are many humorous sections in Thin Body, Fat Mind that shed light on issues that are often hidden and shameful, thereby opening the door for healing. Cathy treats her subject with humor and compassion and leaves the audience feeling uplifted and empowered.
This show strikes a chord about appetites and hunger that resonates in everyone.
Thin Body, Fat Mind was premiered at The Collective Unconscious in Manhattan in January, 2004. In 2005, the show was adapted for High School and College audiences to open up a dialogue among students about food and body issues and to raise awareness about the desire to be thinner that is ravaging so many young lives.
